So here at CJ we don’t let the small matter of being based on separate continents stop us from introducing our team members to the affiliate world. So without further ado we would like to welcome our new account manager Kegan Hill to the South Africa office; to help you to get to know Kegan a little better we have asked him a few choice questions. So if you want to find out who Kegan’s hero/heroine in life is (and believe me you do) then read on……

CJ: Where are you from?
KH: I’m from Durban, born and bred.

CJ: What did you do before CJ?
KH: I worked in finance for a company called VATit. I enjoyed my time there and made good contacts but I felt it was time for a change.

CJ: What are your impressions of CJ so far?
KH: Great! I already feel like I fit in and I’ve learnt a lot in the few days I have been here.

CJ: What do you think about affiliate marketing?
KH: I think it’s a great industry to be in, lots of exciting developments, I’m looking forward to it.

CJ: Where was your most recent holiday?
KH: That was to ‘The Berg’ (CJ: We are guessing Johannesburg Kegan?) for a family golf weekend. What made it even sweeter was winning and having the bragging rights for next year (it’s a pretty big thing in our family).

CJ: What did you want to be when you grew up?
KH: As far back as I can remember I wanted to be a professional cricket player.

Who is your hero/heroine?
KH: My mom! (CJ: Oh Kegan, really?)

CJ: Give us two interesting facts about yourself?
KH: I like to try everything at least once – I’ve been sky diving, so now I can say I’ve been there, got the DVD and WILL NEVER do that again. I am also an only child.

CJ: Very insightful stuff Kegan, good luck trying ‘everything’ at least once and welcome to the CJ team.

We want to welcome the delightful Owen Hancock to CJHQ so we’ve done a rapid fire, ‘getting to know you’ session below. Owen is joining as an account manager working on Alton Towers and Weight Watchers, taking on board more clients as he learns the ropes. So if you have any issues you need to address I’m sure he’s more than happy to answer your burning questions

CJ: Where are you from?
OH: I’m from Cambridgeshire originally; it’s flat as a pancake round that way so any sign of a hill makes me excited, but now I’m in Elephant & Castle which has its own particular charms…

CJ: What did you do before you joined Commission Junction?
OH: I was at a little social network called CitySocialising. The idea is to help people make new friends when they move to a city. It was great fun and I make some fantastic friends there, can’t wait to do the same at CJ.

CJ: What are your impressions of CJ so far?
OH: It’s been lovely. I’ve learnt a lot in my first few days and long may it continue (although perhaps not quite as long as Antonello’s tracking training )

CJ: What do you think about Affiliate Marketing?
OH: I think there’s so much potential in it. As someone who’s worked on the advertiser side in the past I obviously love the redistribution of risk, but what’s really exciting is all the possibilities for taking affiliate offline like Pay Per Call and mobile voucher apps.

CJ: Where was your most recent holiday?
OH: Salzburg, home of Mozart and The Sound of Music (neither of which I’m massive fans of incidentally). It’s a beautiful little town though full of little winding streets and horse drawn carriages – I’d thoroughly recommend it.

CJ: What did you want to be when you grew up?
OH: Superstar footballer, sadly I failed to even make the cut for the school team so that dream soon died.

CJ: What is your favourite sandwich?
OW: Cheese and marmite! Some people call freaky, but I can’t get enough of it.

CJ: If you could be an animal, what would you be and why?
OH: A Chamois – athletic and full of energy + I’d get to live in some of the most beautiful mountain scenery Europe has to offer. (A Chamois is like an Alpine Antelope) Editor’s note: I’m really pleased you explained that one!

CJ: Tell us two interesting facts about yourself
OH: Before I started my career in marketing I worked as a thatcher – lots of cups of tea and lots of cuts and bruises. Sadly though I had to give up the physical labour after a big fall rock-climbing. The roofing world’s loss, the marketing world’s gain.

Earlier this year I foolishly decided to walk across Scotland (all the way across, from coast to coast!) to raise money for the Red Cross. Two days in, knee-high in snow and thoroughly soaked, I started to regret my foolhardiness but after a lot of perseverance (and a little lift from a part-time member of Travis) I made it all the way to from the Irish Sea to the North Sea!

CJ: both very interesting facts! It’s great to have you on board Owen and we hope you settle down quickly and enjoy your time at CJ. Thanks for your time

This past Thursday saw ValueClick HQ play host to the Commission Junction annual Travel Publisher Day. We like to think of it as speed dating for the affiliate marketing world with Commission Junction playing Cupid. These events are starting to cause quite a stir due to the direct meeting-to-conversion rate they’re producing, but don’t just take our word for it, let our clients tell you what they think.

We accosted Neil from iSPY to see what he thought of the day.

CJ: How long have you been a publisher Neill?
N: For a year now

CJ: And for how long of that year have you worked with CJ?
N: For about four months

CJ: What were your objectives at the CJ Travel Publisher Day
N: Mainly meeting the CJ team, and meeting face to face with advertisers to explain how our publication will develop and can meet their needs

CJ: Did you get all the information you wanted from your meetings?
N: You know, I had so much to discuss there wasn’t always time, but the important thing was I had established a channel of communication, details could follow later.

CJ: What was the golden nugget of information you gained on the day?
N: Be open to challenge your assumptions about your publication.

CJ: So would you recommend other industries to attend a CJ Advertiser/Publisher day?
N: YES! It’s an invaluable chance to pitch directly to many advertisers and gather an understanding of their mindset, it’s not often that you get this opportunity so it’s definitely worthwhile.

CJ: So do you think the Travel Publisher Day will benefit your business?
N: Again yes, this has given me the opportunity to develop new relationships with advertisers which might have previously taken a long time. In addition I am now thinking about my own publication techniques and objectives in a new light, feedback is integral to the growth of any business and having lots of people who know what they’re talking about throws up some great suggestions.

Agencies, affiliates, publishers – we work with them all. Arena Media is one of the biggest agencies and we’re currently working alongside them with Legal & General to provide a stellar affiliate programme. We caught up with the lovely Stacey Alexander, account development director, to give us a bit more information on her insights into the affiliate industry and how publishers can improve their chances of working with Legal & General.

CJ: How long have you worked in affiliate marketing?
SA: 6 years now, 4 years client side and 2 years with Arena.
CJ: What attracted you to the sector?
SA: I think like most people I fell into affiliate marketing! My career started at a regional newspaper back in 2004 where I worked on direct mail campaigns; I didn’t know anything about affiliate marketing until I joined Brightside in 2006. A friend approached me with a role that had come up in the marketing team where she worked and thankfully I went for it!
CJ: What do you think are the most important factors facing Legal & General in the affiliate marketing space?
SA: Affiliates can drive large volumes of sales for advertisers in the finance sector but it is easy to become reliant on them for volume and overlook the longevity of the customers they refer to us. With this in mind, it is important to measure the overall value of a customer and then work with all publishers to grow a more loyal customer base. I believe this will be a key focus for Legal & General and it will be great to get to a position where we can reward our publisher base not just on volume but also the value of the customers they drive.
CJ: What technologies are you investing in at the moment?
SA: We are investing in a new affiliate hub and also investigating PayPerCall tracking.
CJ: What is your biggest bug-bear about publishers?
SA: I don’t really have a bug-bear about publishers, I just find those who are easy to contact and are transparent with their activity work better with us and our advertisers.
CJ: How do you think a publisher could work better for you?
SA: As above just keep in contact and be forthcoming with idea’s and new ways to promote Legal & General.

A few of our account managers recently attended a4u’s PerformanceIN Fashion event, here, CJ account manager Allanah Tatana talks all about it:

Last week marked the launch of the first ever PerformanceIN Fashion & Beauty event, courtesy of our good friends, the a4u. A motley crew of four (Hardeep, Jay, Ellie & I) made out way down to the stunning Hurlingham club in Putney Bridge for a fun filled day of fashion, networking, seminars and lobster! CJ cleverly parked up closely to some rather fetching cupcakes (thanks eConversions!) so we were well placed to entertain some of our favourite merchants, publishers and fashionistas.

We set up the stand to showcase how we as a Network can grow Fashion brands, learn about what’s new in the affiliate fashion world and to meet and greet new potential partners. Fashion retailers are an important part of the affiliate marketing mix and it was great to see an event tailored specifically for this vertical.

Over the course of the day we had the opportunity to chat with new affiliate partners and re-engage with our existing ones. The a4u had organised an excellent programme of seminars focused on getting the most out of the affiliate channel in the fashion sector. It was great to hear a range of perspectives from some of the most influential advertisers in the industry and to get a taste of how things stand from the blogger’s eye view.

The lobster lunch was a clear winner (as well as the constantly replenished pastries!) and the atmosphere was electric throughout the day making room for great networking opportunities. With this event a4u proved, yet again, that they’re at the forefront of the affiliate marketing industry. We’re looking forward to the next PerformanceIN Travel event, taking place in November. After the success of the initial fashion event, the PerformanceIN series is set to be on our agenda for a while to come.

We have had a few new members join the CJ family and thought you might like to meet the first instalment of the recent additions.

So please join me in welcoming Jay, John and Sophie.

First newbie to introduce themselves is Jay Singh who has already made his mark in the office by sending round a video of him singing Jay Z.

Where are you from? Sunny South London – Streatham to be specific

What did you do before CJ? I was an Account Manager for eBay’s AdCommerce Pay Per Click Program

What is your job here? Working on the publisher development side of CJ as Publisher Development Manager

What are your impressions of CJ so far? Very impressed, characters, hardworking people and being a professional, dynamic company always helps! The bagels are great too

What do you think about Affiliate Marketing? Interesting so far, I am new to the model but am looking forward to learning and understanding more – people are making thousands a month sitting at home simply referring users to brands but also people are coming up with innovative and constantly fresh concepts to make more money!

What did you want to be when you grew up? A voice over artist for a new cartoon show (Editor’s note: Sure it wasn’t singing after the video you sent round the office?)

Do you have any pets? Tell us about them No, but I’m close to buying a chocolate brown Labrador!

We are now tempted to buy one too

What is your favourite animal? The King of the Jungle (a lion), they are simply fearless

What is your favourite sandwich? Really now?! OK – grated cheese between 2 hot pieces of toast (Editor’s note: Also referred to as a Cheese Toastie)

What is your favourite cartoon character? Stewie Griffin & Quagmire from Family Guy

Tell us something about yourselves I love anything creative, I do fine arts drawing (my animal portfolio is amazing) and am quite involved in my cultural music industry – Anything that also allows new and innovative ideas to come together stimulates my mind! I have a passion for digital marketing and always look to try and go beyond what I am currently able to do.

Inspirational way to end your bio Jay , now time to meet our new account manager John Coulson (and a very pink picture of himself):

Where are you from? I was born in Middlesbrough (don’t judge me) and grew up in North Yorkshire but now live in Sunny Wandsworth Town (Editor’s note: We like the theme so far of South London being described as ‘Sunny’)

What did you do before CJ? Sales account manager for the Guardian Newspaper

What is your job here? Account Manager for CJ working on Match.com, Emirates and Adobe amongst others

What are your impressions of CJ so far? Really great bunch of people. Work hard, play hard is a horribly cheesy cliché but I think it’s pretty accurate here

What do you think about Affiliate Marketing? I like the fact that you work across all channels – search, direct marketing, voucher space etc. It’s also very fast evolving so it give you the opportunity to be entrepreneurial

What did you want to be when you grew up? Naturally I wanted to work in sales for a national newspaper… errr no!…. Actually like most kids in the North East I wanted to be a pro footballer but lacked pretty much every asset required.

Do you have any pets? Tell us about them None at the moment but as a kid I had a goldfish that lived for 11 years (Editor’s note: Wow that’s quite an achievement, especially for goldfish’s average expected lifespans...)

What is your favourite animal? It would have to be the shark. Such an elegant animal – I’d like to swim with them one day (in a cage of course)

What is your favourite sandwich? So many to choose from but at the moment I’m really into crunchy peanut butter, ham and cucumber – a lot of people think it sounds disgusting (Editor’s note: It does, but each to their own)

What is your favourite cartoon character? Peter Griffin

Tell us something about yourself A few years back I very nearly moved over to Sydney but chose London instead (Editor’s note: Must be all that sun in Wandsworth that swayed you). I would definitely like to live abroad at some point though… maybe 5 years or so

And last but not least, Sophie Holmes, who has joined Sam Richards on sales; let’s find out a bit more about her.

Where are you from? I’m originally from Berkshire but moved to Clapham Junction two years ago and can’t bring myself to move!

What did you do before CJ? I worked for a company called Bay Media selling outdoor advertising…to be more specific…wind releasing lamppost banners…it’s honestly a real thing! (Editor’s note: We had to Google to double check too)

What is your job here? I’m a sales executive on the advertiser side of things, working alongside Sam.

What are your impressions of CJ so far? Fun and friendly people! I’ve been made to feel really welcome and I’m enjoying learning lots of new things!

What do you think about Affiliate Marketing? It’s fascinating! Every time I think I’ve finally grasped it, I learn something new!

What did you want to be when you grew up? I wanted to be a fashion designer and used to cut up my clothes and make them into “new” outfits…my mum wasn’t too happy!

Do you have any pets? Tell us about them Not at the moment…I used to have hamsters and I really want a dog!

What is your favourite animal? A monkey!

What is your favourite sandwich? A bacon butty made by my dad! (Editor’s note: We have to agree with you there, nothing like going home and being cooked for)

What is your favourite cartoon character? Johnny Bravo, what a ledge! (Editor’s note: for those not so familiar with this Cartoon Network fave, see below for the man who taught children the meaning of ‘beefcake’)

Tell us something about yourselves My claim to fame is that I was once on the Trisha Show (in the audience) but I stood up and spoke to Trisha and said my bit about how some guy should go and sort his life out…there was lots of whooping!

Well we salute you Miss Holmes on trying to make the world a better place, one talkshow at a time, Jeremy Kyle next?

Commission Junction has had some new faces join our team over the past few months, and we would like to introduce you to them.

First of these is Miss Clare Hannaway:

Clare Hannaway joined the CJ team a few months ago and has already shown she’s in the right place, and not just for her being united with her ‘long lost metaphorical twin’, although you won’t be blamed for mistaking them from time to time.

So where were you before you came to work in picturesque Putney?

I’m from Marlow in Buckinghamshire but now live in Islington (Editor’s note: Oh er very nice!). I’ve also spent 18 months lapping up the sunshine living in Mallorca, and 6 month swooping around the Alps in France (Editor’s note: Very Jealous of this little jetsetter).

What did you do before Commission Junction?

Before I came to Commission Junction I worked for an Advertising agency planning and buying media space, a brief spell with Sam R in digital recruitment and most recently I was doing CRM/email marketing for Livebookings – Europe’s largest online marketing network for the restaurant industry! (Editor’s note: Free food)

What is your job here?

I’m an account manager in E-man’s team. He’s a VERY brave man to put up with 3 noisy girls on his team (Editor’s note: Yes he is, especially sitting next to the loudest of the lot Marta)

Tell us something interesting about yourself

Vikki is my twin. Pay attention you will often spot we have the same clothes on.

What do you think about affiliate marketing?

I think it is a great industry to be in! (Editor’s note: Yes it is!) When planning and buying advertising space 3 or so years ago all my accounts were going online and wanted to work on CPA but they just didn’t exist. I think there is loads of scope for lots of exciting developments in the online space moving forward too.

Do you have any pets? Tell us about them

I had a gold fish called Bob. I won him at Marlow Regatta fair after several jugs of Pimms. I was sooo pleased with him, when I got home that night I lovingly placed him in a measuring jug. Needless to say the next morning when I woke up I wasn’t so excited about him and found myself having to go the pet shop to buy a fish tank. £50 lighter Bob had a lovely new home. About 2 weeks later I cracked the glass bowl and had to buy another one, not long after that he died.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

Uurrmmm – is it bad I had no real goal/ambition? Obviously I’m very ambitious now!!

What is your favourite sandwich?

I prefer baguettes – chicken salad is my all time favourite but if we have to go for a sandwich it’d have to be a cheese, ham and tomato toastie! (Editor’s note: Not technically a sandwich, but good choice!)

What is your favourite colour?

Blue!

Our second new recruit is Matt Baker who is from Wolverhampton (it’s OK, we have Babelfish!) and is undoubtedly very pleased with Mick McCarthy’s boys at the weekend. A quick catch up with Matt revealed he may be a man of few words, but was able to place Wolverhampton into his interview three times. Matt, I think we’ve got the hint you support Wolverhampton FC, we’ll get you a calendar for Christmas!

Where are you from?

Born in Wolverhampton, moved to Telford at the age of 7 and spent the last 7 years living in Brighton. Moved to London in August 2009

What did you do before Commission Junction

Business Bank Manager

Domains Account Manager

What is your job at CJ?

Key Accounts Manager

Tell us something interesting about yourself

Wolves fan (best I could do)

What do you think about affiliate marketing?

I think it’s great. (Editor’s note: accurate and to the point)

Do you have any pets? Tell us about them

1 Cat – Called Noel and 9 months old. He/she is actually a girl, but had already named her a him by the time I found she had no man bits. (Editor’s note: At least Noel is unisex, it could have been worse; you could have called it Bruce or some other manly name…)

What did you want to be when you grew up?

Affiliate marketing manager (real answer – Video Editor)

What is your favourite sandwich?

Ploughmans

What is your favourite colour?

Old Gold (The official Wolves colour) (Editor’s note: Oh mentioning Wolverhampton again Matthew?)

Mike ‘the mountain bike’ Thurgood, a Kentish Man posing as a Man from Kent, found trawling the countryside on his Yeti (bike) any chance he gets.

Where are you from?

I live in a town called Orpington (home of the Orpington Buff Chicken) in Bromley; I am what is affectionately known as a Bromley boy!

What did you do before Commission Junction

6 years as a recruitment consultant for my sins, working in the IT, Energy and Construction Markets. Before that I worked in IT as a web designer and network support.

What is your job at CJ?

I am an Account Manager on the Agency team; I manage relationships with advertisers who have an intermediary agency. Clients include Ann Summers, AllSaints, Thomas Pink, Crucial Technologies and Fenchurch

Tell us something interesting about yourself

I am a fanatical cyclist and cycle 20 miles each way to work every single day (Editor’s note: Keep off the pavements just before 9am), I have done rides from London to Lands end and London to Paris, I race cross country and downhill mountain bikes – I have also broken over 30 bones and been in an air ambulance!

What do you think about affiliate marketing?

Affiliate marketing is a new industry to me but one I have been keen to get into for some time. I love the variety of work and interesting clients and individuals I meet and work with on a day to day basis and the chance to play with cool new technologies.

Do you have any pets? Tell us about them

I no longer have any pets but I did used to breed rabbits (yes breed rabbits not breed like a rabbit) and had over 60 at one point, I am also a cat person but my cat recently died and I haven’t quite got over it enough to get a new one.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

A fighter pilot – unfortunately I stopped growing at the age of 12 so wouldn’t be able to reach the controls.

What is your favourite sandwich?

Ham, Boursin & Lettuce on a Cheesy Baguette. (Editor’s note: That’s not a sandwich either!)

What is your favourite colour?

Not sure – don’t really have one. I just like colourful!

And finally me, my name is Emma Morgan and I have just joined the Commission Junction team as Marketing Assistant.

Where are you from?

Born in Sidcup, but moved around Kent until I went to University in Cheltenham. I have just moved to Putney so now am in walking distance of the office… and all the pubs!

What did you do before Commission Junction

I studied Marketing, Advertising and Communications at the University of Gloucestershire, based in Cheltenham.

What is your job at CJ?

I am a marketing assistant, and have already been given the opportunity to participate in many projects.

Tell us something interesting about yourself

I am an avid skier, and started at the age of two. I haven’t been in a few years but am desperate to get on the slopes again soon! I have been lucky enough to ski in America, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, New Zealand and multiple times in the French Alps.

What do you think about affiliate marketing?

I did not have much prior knowledge on affiliate marketing before as it was something that I hadn’t focused on in my studies. But working at CJ has been a fantastic chance to apply my knowledge and learn new skills.

Do you have any pets? Tell us about them

I used to have a house-share rabbit in Cheltenham called Tallulah Buttercup (Bunny for short), who was adorable and strangely calm for a rabbit. She is with her actual owner in Worcester at the moment, so don’t see her much anymore. I also have a family dog called Sally who is a ten year old black Labrador but she still acts like a puppy. The only tell-tale signs are the white hairs on her chin.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

Anything and everything, I was quite indecisive. But after some work experience at Microsoft London I realised I wanted to pursue a career in marketing.

What is your favourite sandwich?

BLT, but the bacon has to be nice and crispy.

What is your favourite colour?

Fuchsia pink

The one day a year the whole office waits for… Sports Day. This monumental occasion took place on Thursday and ended in a very jolly group of people populating Putney, and some slight headaches the next day. The sports day consisted of Dodgeball matches and the (realistically named) ‘mini olympics’.

Michelle demonstrating 'W is for White Team, W is for Winners!'

The ‘mini olympics’ included many respectable sports, such as three legged racing, skipping and hula-hooping. There was some disputing over who the overall champions were, but the Green team were victorious as the overall winners, and the White team valiantly (although debatably, according to the other teams) took the Dodgeball title. There’s nothing like a healthy bit of competition in the workplace.

Dodgeball in all it's glory

Of course after such a strenuous afternoon of extreme sports the only ending to the day was to go to a local public house for refreshments and a BBQ, where the winning teams celebrated and the losers drowned their sorrows.

Yet another new member of staff joins us in the CJ offices in the avant-garde, recondite and trailblazing London district of Putney. Notable residents (past and present) of Putney (according to Wikipedia) include Sir Richard Branson, Clement Atlee, Marc Bolan, Simon Le Bon and Bobby Moore. We have great pleasure in announcing a new addition to this list – Vikki Hearne, who is the new Account Manager at CJ.

Vikki has joined us in Emmanuel’s team to support him strategically and tactically with the portfolio he oversees as Account Director. Would you like to know more about Vikki? Let me start with a photo of her which looks like a happy holiday snap.

And now let us take the time to get to know her more with a quick interview

So you are an Account Manager at CJ. What did you do before you worked here?

Well I worked as a Marketing Manager for a Canadian software company called Eedo. It was a private company which merged with a US company last year called OutStart who are the leading provider for Social Business and Learning Solutions (Editor’s note – I think that we could have probably guessed Vikki’s job title from the way she described her previous company).

Where do you come from? Tell us a little bit about it.

I live in Greenwich in south-east London which is also where time is from. As well as Greenwich I have also lived in Sardinia for six months, France for six months and Florida for a year and a half.

What interests you in affiliate marketing?

As someone who has worked in marketing, I find affiliate marketing interesting primarily because of the results it can deliver if used well. I enjoy the fact that it is so fast-growing because it is cost-efficient and quantifiable for both the affiliate and the merchant. It seems like it is a win-win solution if you know what you are doing on both sides.

How are you finding CJ so far?

The training has been great and the people are so welcoming, friendly and helpful (collective CJ blush). I’m excited to be working with a fantastic network of people in a constantly-changing industry and I look forward to meeting people in the wider industry over the coming months.

Let’s up the pace for some quickfire questions

What are your hobbies?

Snowboarding, running, power-kite flying (eh?) and diving.

What is your favourite colour?

Yellow

What is your favourite film?

Tough one as there are so many greats but I would have to say that up there would be the Green Mile, The Goonies and Con Air.

What was the last book you read.

Twilight – hated it, stupid vampires

If you were an animal, which would it be?

A Giant Squid – I love the Ocean and these things can morph into anything (editor’s note – anything??)

Well many warm welcomes Vikki, with your morphous shape-shifting animals and their intriguing ability to take on the form of apparently anything in the world. Maybe over time you will learn to love CJ’s new favourite animal, the much-maligned, gold-hearted Blob Fish

More new starters? Yes, more new starters. Let me introduce them to you.

Sam Richards has joined us as the UK Head of Sales (as Florian has been promoted to Head of Agency & International Client Servicing – congrats!) He is a picture of Sam taken very close up to his face

Sam is from deepest darkest Kent, specifically a place called Crockenhill. Some quick facts about Crockenhill you ask? Well in the latter half of the twentieth century Crockenhill was an important area for growing peppermint. The village is also currently creating a habitat for badgers which is nice. Despite this Sam is looking to relocate closer to the office in the near future as it sounds like his commute is a bit of a mission.

Before joining CJ, Sam kept himself busy by travelling around the world and ‘sunning myself on various beaches’ which makes me a bit jealous on a cold and rainy Monday morning. Before that he was Digital Head of Sales for PFJ recruitment – he would like to make clear that he is now a ‘reformed recruitment consultant’. He was about to sign up to work for a digital agency when Alison, Cheryl and Florian convimced him that he is a CJ’er.

Here is a little interview with Sam:

What is the remit of your role at CJ then?

It is to develop new relationships with key merchants in the UK, get to know them, find out what their affiliate marketing needs are and design a Commission Junction solution.

What do you find interesting about affiliate marketing?

The fact that it is a bit of a no-brainer for clients. Well that is the first thing which is interesting but when you scratch beneath the surface it is the fact that there are so many nuances to the solution – that it isn’t one size fits all and that the approach is different for each client. I work closely with the CJ Account Teams and I love watching them work out ways to launch and then grow programmes – there is certainly a lot to it!

What are your impressions of CJ so far?

Really good, great people and always lots of chocoate (thanks Sam)

What did you want to be when you grew up? An architect

What is your favourite colour? Blue

What is your favourite sandwich? I’m a bit old school – cheese and pickle

What is your favourite cartoon character? Wile E. Coyote

So now that you know Sam a little bit better I will introduce you to a lady who has the best name I have ever heard – Lieke Schriks.

Lieke has joined us as an Account Manager for our Agency team. We have a similar in-your-face photo for Lieke below.

Lieke is from the Netherlands which, incidentally, gives her a certain kudos. The Netherlands is a very flat country sandwiched between Belgium and Germany. It is famous for clogs, tulips, windmills, canals and bikes. Nothing else. Lieke was born and raised in Eindhoven which is where something called the ‘fabulous PSV’ is based (football maybe? – Lieke seemed keen to point it out).

Before joining us at CJ Leike worked as an Account Executive for TradeDoubler in the Netherlands which she enjoyed but was curious to see if Affiliate Marketing was ‘absolutely positively my thing’. She moved to work in the Events Management department at Shell and whilst she was with them she relocated to London. It was then that she realised that her heart was in Affiliate Marketing and started her quest to get back into the industry. ‘For all my luck CJ appeared on the horizon and here I am working as an Account Manager on the Agency Team’.

Let us continue with the earlier format and hear from Lieke in her own words:

What is the remit of your role?

I work as part of a team which is reponsible for looking after the growth and development of the agency accounts in the UK. My day to day role consists of many things including: looking after publisher relationships, identifying potential affiliate/merchant partnerships. and basically ensuring the smooth running of the programmes.

What are your impressions of CJ so far?

It’s a great place to work! A floor full of funny and intelligent people and I feel like I have learnt more in two months at CJ then at one year at Shell. What makes CJ extra special for me is the opportunity to learn lots about not just Affiliate Marketing but also the other parts of the digital industry as all the ValueClick businesses work together out of the Putney offices.

What do you find interesting about Affilate Marketing?

I love the fact that Affiliate Marketing is totally diverse and innovative. Each day my tasks are different and I am constantly dealing with new and interesting people. It makes me think outside the box and I get motivated by the results that we can achieve in a very short period of time.

What did you want to be when you grew up? A tailor

What is your favourite colour? Blue

What is your favourite animal? A lyre bird – check out the amazing sounds from the lyre bird by David Attenborough and you will know why

What is your favourite sandwich? Peanut butter with cucumber (Editor’s Note – I have no words to describe how disgusting this sounds, a deviant sandwhich)

What is your favroute cartoon character? Peter from Family Guy

Well that is it. That is your lot. Welcome Sam and Leike to CJ. May you live long and prosper.
