IAB Affiliate Marketing Seminar
Author: Hannah Luckie; Filed under: CJ UK Events, Industry Events; Tagged as: Affiliate Seminar, IABDaniel wrote a while ago about the importance of the IAB’s Affiliate Marketing Council to help regulate and drive best practices within the industry (see here).
The IAB is running a seminar on Affiliate Marketing on Wednesday 24th June at its offices near Holborn in London. The event is a quick look into affiliate marketing – an introduction by Matt Bailey (AMC Chair) covers what the industry is doing to standardise and self regulate. This is followed by two short case studies, one of which is with Daniel Powel from CJ and Lina Patel from lastminute.com who recently won the best use of affiliate marketing within the travel&leisure categories.
Daniel and Lina are also speaking as part of a panel which closes the event. Questions for the panel are submitted beforehand to dan@iabuk.net.
Full details of the agenda can be found on the IAB site here

After all the anticipation I am now writing to you from the wrong side of the A4U European Expo in Amsterdam. Despite having got back yesterday morning I am still feeling decidedly jaded from three solid days of meetings, networking, manning the stand, and entertaining clients.

So it is not too long to the A4U expo in Europe! In fact it is 27 sleeps away and after a bit of hair pulling we have decided who is going from the CJ team in the UK. The lucky ones are Cheryl Ingram, Dan Powel, Jason Baker, Dipa Shah and my good self (well someone has to manage the logistics of the stand!) On top of that we have people coming from the German and French offices.
Cheryl and I will be coming in on the Monday and are staying at the Holiday Inn with a few clients. The other guys will join us on the Tuesday. Anyone who is looking for a friend then just email us at admin@cjblog.co.uk. If you haven’t booked your ticket yet (shame on you) then email as well as we have an exclusive discount code as we are sponsors.
We are stand 13 which may spell doom for some but I am optimistic. We also have a fair few speaker slots which I will go into more detail about closer to the event. Do take a look at the agenda though – it looks like it will be a great event.

Winner of the launch competition is announced
Author: Hannah Luckie; Filed under: CJ UK Events, Meet the Team; Tagged as: CJ Launch Competition, Net Media PlanetAfter a week or so of heart-rendering pontification, our guest judge has decided who the winner of our launch competition is! Handing over to our adjudicator, Revolution Magazine’s Andy McCormick, to announce….
“the winner is Net Media Planet who took the CJ team on a whirlwind tour of Vegas. Vegas is definately somewhere special and the Luke Judge and Magnus Nilsson had CJ in their thoughts throughout – taking pictures of the team on the plane, next to the roulette wheels and even in mini-Venice. I suspect (but don’t know) that cameras aren’t allowed in some of the extra ’special’ venues in Vegas, otherwise the CJ team would have been photographed there too! Enjoy the trip to Commission Junction University in California”
Thanks Andy for being our judge. Thanks also to everyone else who entered – with special mention to Match.com, IHG, Credit Expert, Doug Scott and Rob from www.affiliate4travel.co.uk who all did really good entries. Now for our winning entry from start to finish.
“Net Media Planet takes Commission Junction UK to Las Vegas for a week of fun! Luke Judge (Business Development Manager) and Magnus Nilsson (Head of Account Management) bring along the team for a tour of the Affiliate Summit West in Las Vegas and also show them around town!
Luke and the Commission Junction team on the flight on the way to Las Vegas!

a4uexpo Europe
Author: Hannah Luckie; Filed under: CJ UK Events, Meet the Team; Tagged as: A4U Expo Europe, European TeamsGreat news - we have managed to secure a sponsorship slot at their first European event in Amsterdam on the 28th and 29th April. As well as the sponsorship we will also have a stand which will be manned by staff from across the European teams.
They have opened registration here with a great early bird offer of 179 euros for affiliates and 270 euros for advertisers, agencies and networks. This is available until the 28th February, but if you miss it and are a CJ client, don’t worry! - just email me at admin@cjblog.co.uk and we get a 15% discount as sponsors.
I just spoke to the a4u lot. I know that Matt is in the process of finalising the agenda which looks to be as interesting and diverse as last year from what we hear. Claire is also very keen to point out that YOU NEED TO BOOK YOUR HOTEL. Apparently there is a big Queen’s day celebration which means the city will be fairly full – so this is not something that you can leave until the last minute.
They have organised some discounted rates at hotels which you can see here. I will be finalising who is going from the CJ team and where we are staying mid way through next week so will be sure to let you all know. I am personally really looking forward to it – should be loads of fun, particularly meeting with loads of different guys across Europe. Hope to see you there.

Don’t forget our competition – the prize is really very good. You can win a trip to Commission Junction University in the US later this year. This means that you get tickets to the event, flights to and accomodation in the beautiful Santa Barbara.
And it is very easy to enter – all you need to do is take a photo of yourself with the team (a photo of the team that is!). Details here. Read the rest of this entry »

It is more important than ever to get everything you can from your affiliate marketing as everyone feels the burn of the recession. We will be having a guest feature soon about recession-proof affilliate marketing but for now I wanted to tell you about our efforts to maximise the upward curve of seasonality.
Clearly the most effective form of communication is face-to-face. So, following the success of our retail seasonal business meeting day on the 8th of October, we had our travel event last Wednesday at the MWB Offices in Marble Arch.
"A large proportion of publishers I know own dozens if not hundreds of domain names. Later on they regret having purchased so many as they don't have the time to build websites for them. Also they don't attract the amount of type-in traffic they were hoping for. Therefore discipline yourself to only buy domain names that you must have.
Be cautious of hype-ridden new TLD releases. There is currently a lot of hysteria surrounding .co domain names, but they could end up being just as much of a damp squib as .tel, .ws and other TLDs. One thing many people are not aware of is a .co domain is seen by Google by default as a local Colombian domain; great if you want to rank well in Colombia, not so great if you wish to use it for a UK site."
