Good piece. Really interesting to see Alison Guise’s thoughts on how things will progress in 2009. As she says, it will be a challenge for us, but affiliate marketing is better placed than any other industry.
Although it’s stressful being paid on performance, that’s the way marketing is going, and in this recession I’d rather be in affiliate marketing than TV, radio, print, display or anything else.
Thanks Nadeem. I agree – an especially good time to be online.
The key thing to remember is that, although extremely effective, affiliate marketing is not a miracle channel. New entrants must remember that as a rule of thumb you get out what you put in. One thing for sure is that it will be a very interesting year with many lessons learnt.
“You get out what you put in” a very valid comment Hannah. Affiliate Marketing isn’t a silver bullet however, integrated within a wider marketing programme AM will stand up as a highly efficient means of customer acquisition.
Ali’s comments are indeed true with regards voucher codes – advertisers with the help or their agencies will need to clarify the true customer journey and then evaulate the channels which benefit their business to drive profitable volume.
Thanks, Chris
